Mekong Delta

Our 3rd day in Vietnam we decided to get our of the city and visit the Mekong Delta.  I was feeling a little woozy by the end of the day but I wouldn't have changed anything about it.  This was one of my favorites in Vietnam.
Our day started fairly early and those of you who know me, know that I don't love early.  But, when there are new exciting things to see and do, I tough it out.  Our first stop was the Vinh Trang Buddhist Temple.  There has been a temple on this site since the mid 19th century.  The current structures date from the early 1900s.

Our 2nd stop was to jump on a boat and explore the delta.  It was a beautiful day, especially since we were visiting during the rainy season.  We stopped at 3 different islands in the Mekong.  It was a little like taking a step back in time.  We got to try many fruits, a lot of coconut products and snake wine!

We also got to hear some local folk music preformed live, chop down our own coconut to enjoy, had some delicious fish for a late lunch and then headed back.

The best part of the day was the chopping down our own coconut, well not really that, but meeting the man who owned the coconut tree.  He was one of the kindest people I've ever met.  Our tour guide translated our conversation.  He lived through the war and had many stories to share.  He also had many questions.  The next day we flew to Denanag.
Until next time.
