This was my first taste of a country under Islamic law. There is some debate on whether or not Malaysia operates as an Islamic state or secular state, but everything I've read says Malays fall under Islamic law. So, I was a bit nervous about that as well. We've visited Turkey, whose main religion is Islam, but this felt different to me. There are many different people that make up Malaysia- Malays, Chinese, and Indian. My favorite thing about Malaysia was seeing all these people living together in harmony. Women with head coverings walking around with ladies in short shorts and high heels. You name it, the differences weren't affecting relationships. I know, I'm just a tourist and don't see everything, but it was eye opening and inspiring. I can only hope that one day Americans can live together peacefully despite all our differences.
Our first stop was the Islamic Arts Museum. They were having a calligraphy exhibit and we loved it.
