Georgetown

For our last part of Malaysia, we visited Georgetown on the island of Penang.  I LOVED Georgetown.  The best thing about Georgetown is the food.  The heat, I could do without.  One day it was so hot, I had to change 3 times (even my under things!).  I loved the architecture.  The mix of colonialism, a huge Chinese heritage, and Indian culture made for some awesome sightseeing.  Another awesome thing about Georgetown is the street art.  Georgetown is the only place in Malaysia where street art is allowed.  Georgetown is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We stayed in a heritage gem, Hotel Penaga, and loved it.  We stayed in one of the loft style rooms.  They even offer family-size apartments.  Our room was spacious and very much sound proof.  The bathroom was also huge!

Our first activity in Georgetown was a food tour.  I did say Georgetown is famous for their food.  We joined Heritage on a Plate for an evening tour with An.  My mouth is watering remembering the tour. Here are shots of the delicious foods we sampled.  I highly recommend Heritage on a Plate.

We also did a bike tour so that we could see as much as possible.  The benefit to this bike tour was it involved food as well.  Our tour was lead by Ken at Metro Bike.  We thoroughly enjoyed this tour.

We visited a few places on our own.  This beautiful mosque Masid Kaptain Kling was one of our first stops.

A couple of beautiful temples.

Then we had fun at the Moustache Houze, a little dessert restaurant in Chinatown.  Here are a couple of shots of some of their cute decor.

That concludes our Malaysia trip.  Singapore is all that is left from our last trip, but we are getting ready to travel again for 30 days.  Vietnam, Cambodia, and Myanmar are on the agenda.  So, stay tuned in about a month for more updates.  Until next time.
